Who knew that how you breathe can affect THIS part of your body!

Take a deep breath in and then a deep breath out. How does this feel? Probably pretty good, right? Many people don’t realize the impact that a simple breath can have on our body. When feeling stressed, try this simple breathing exercise right now and notice how you feel:

Tip #6: Just breathe, box breathe...

 

Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold that breath in for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds, then hold the breath out for 4 seconds.

This is called a ‘box breath’, and is a quick and simple way to reset and de-stress your body. It’s so easy and you can do this anywhere without anyone even knowing!

When you’re feeling stressed or upset, that’s a sign that your nervous system may be overactive. This is your ‘fight or flight’ response, and it was a critical survival mechanism for our ancestors - they lived where lions and tigers would chase them!  As we’ve evolved, our nervous system still reverts back to this fight or flight mentality when we feel stressed or unsure about something. Our bodies still don’t realize that we’re not being chased by lions and tigers anymore!
