You’ve probably heard that eating veggies is a great way to be healthy… but many people don’t eat enough veggies every day. Here’s a super simple trick to make sure that you get your veggies in, and can still enjoy your favorite foods in 2017:
Aim to get at least 5 servings of veggies every single day (and no - french fries don’t count towards your veggie servings!). 1 serving is equal to one cup, which is about the size of what you can hold in one hand. So you can take a handful of lettuce, or a handful of green beans, or a handful of brussel sprouts … you get the picture :)
When you focus on adding in more healthy foods to your diet, the less healthy stuff tends to just fade away, without you feeling deprived. A good way to think of this trick, is to tell yourself that you can indulge in that (pizza/ cupcake / whatever your craving)... AFTER you eat all 5 of your veggie servings. This does a couple of cool things:
Here’s a simple 2-minute smoothie recipe that packs in 3 full servings of green veggies - and it tastes delicious!
Blend all ingredients together until smooth. You can add more or less ice and milk to achieve your favorite consistency. Delish!!
So try this today! Eat at least 5 veggies (aim for mostly green veggies if possible), and notice how you feel. Do you have less cravings? More energy? You can do this every day in 2017!!
