It's so easy to get caught up in worrying about the future or replaying past experiences over and over in our heads, that we forget to live in the moment. But the only real moment that we have is the present. This very second is ours to savor - are we truly listening, watching, hearing, smelling, feeling? 

Just for today - try this tip to bring yourself back to the present and live the moment: 

Tip #9 - Anchor yourself to the present

Anchoring is a technique used to associate a thought with a specific action. For example, every time that you catch your mind wandering to the past or future, you can press your thumb and pinky finger together while reminding yourself to be present. Pretty soon this will become a habit so that when you press your thumb and pinky together you immediately shift into being present.

You can choose any action to remind yourself to be present - usually it’s easiest to choose something discreet that you can do anywhere. Other actions you could try are: pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth, curling your toes, or taking a deep breath. Make sure it’s something that feels natural to you.

So give it a try - just for today! When you catch your mind wandering away from the present, use your chosen action to bring yourself back to the here and now, and notice how much more engaged you become in every moment of your day! The more present you become, the more joy your experience in life, and your everyday is going to be better than ever!
