Who wouldn’t want to be happier? In our world of seeing everyone else’s fabulous life on social media, the negativity in the news, along with regular life ‘stuff’… it can be tough to put on a smile and be happy. But there’s a super simple way to instantly feel happier - and the best thing is it takes 2 seconds, doesn’t cost a thing, and you can do it anytime, anywhere, 2017!
Here’s what to do:
Step 1: Think about something that you’re grateful for. This can be anything, big or small. Don’t worry about if you’re choosing the right thing, no one has to know what you’re grateful for. It could be a huge raise that you just got, or it could be the sunset you saw last night. What about your family, or your favorite pet? Maybe you finally mastered that handstand in yoga class… Whatever it is, think about what you’re grateful for.
Step 2: Notice how your heart feels. It should feel full, almost like it’s swelled up with happiness! Focus on this feeling for a couple of seconds. You’ll probably even notice that you’re smiling :)
This simple trick helps to flip your switch from negative to positive. People that practice gratitude (yes - this is an actual practice that people do!), these grateful people have more feelings of happiness, living in the moment, and overall enjoyment of life.
You can use this trick anytime and anywhere you want as an instant mood booster - from first thing in the morning to start your day off on a good note - to when your sitting in rush hour traffic and need to chill out - to when you are frustrated at work - and even ending your day with gratitude can set you up for a peaceful sleep.
